Dr. Eliana García Cossio

Ph.D.

Neuroscientist & tES Expert

Dr. Eliana García Cossio studied Biomedical Engineering in Medellin, Colombia. During this time she developed expertise in Brain Computer Interfaces which propelled a career in the neuroscience field.

In 2009 she was awarded with a DAAD scholarship to pursue her PhD with one of the principal investigators in Neurofeedback and Clinical Brain Computer Interfaces (BCI), Prof. Dr. Niels Birbaumer. Eliana wrote her PhD thesis on the topic: ”Towards enhancement of motor recovery in the upper limb after stroke”. She worked closely with Dr. Ander Ramos in implementing new therapies for Stroke recovery based on the patients’ residual muscle activity and by using BCIs. Furthermore, in the lab of Dr. Surjo Soekadar, Eliana and her colleges pioneered the first studies of the simultaneous use of transcranial electrical stimulation (tES) during magnetoencelography (MEG).

After she finished her PhD in 2014 she worked as a Postdoctoral researcher for almost 2 years at the Donders Institute for Brain, Cognition and Behavior with Prof. Peter Desain, where she continued her work in Stroke rehabilitation and BCI.

In 2016, bringing her expertise as neuroscientists with 7 first author publications and a rich research network, Eliana joined the neuroCare Group as a Scientific Specialist and Trainer for neuroCademy.
